Always waited for the sun to rise,

so that Ramu would come and untie us,

take us to the fields,

make us forget that morbid night.

Whizzing through the accustomed pasture,

nibbling the jade grass being so free,

Ramu and Radha chasing us,

making themselves panting and as well as us,

wonder why looms the stars,

shrugging the end of those splendor moments,

just loathe returning,

being tied on that place full of vermin.

Khaire is what they call me,

Chirbire being my best buddy,

who doesn’t run even while being chased,

that must be the reason why he is so chubby,

also the favorite of  Ramu’s  daddy,

lifting and hugging him like Radha does to me.

One mundane morning,

felt something eerie from deep with in,

there rose the impeccable sun as it always did,

shimmering the serene water in the pit,

there he stood with his grotesque figure,

on whose arrival one of our friend disappear,

all of us shuddered musing whose is the turn,

the one who is gonna go and never return,

it was chirbire to my despair ,

what could anyone have done except to stare,

could not fathom where he takes us,

may be the place which is better than this.

Days passed by and so did the months,

high in the sky there flew the kites,

last year this time,

that picture is still clear in my mind,

aloft the hill there they went,

making the hamlet utterly quiet,

all but some of us were left behind.

This time though it seems,

I am also among those lucky ones,

and am gonna go to that unknown place,

thought of seeing Chirbire again brought smile on my face.

Radha’s daddy came and tied us in a row,

Radha came wailing and hugged me like never before.

Up the hill we went for some hours,

then they loaded us in heaving containers,

rustling  and bumping container moved forward,

only to stop at the place full of herd.

The sight over there was dazzling,

thousands of our kind were all around,

pondered myself darting on that field,

with chirbire watching me, Ramu and Radha behind.

But all day along they tied us on that trunk,

not even giving us water to drink,

could not figure out what was happening,

people coming and taking us away one by one.

One person seemed so nice,

who lifted and embraced me twice,

then he started to pull the rope I was tied on,

suddenly my heart knew what was going on,

“he was gonna take me away”,

“oh no” my heart cried “please let me stay”,

I resisted walking on,

but he started beating,
